Private First-Class Fred William Allison, born in 1912, was the son of Jasper and Martha J "Mattie" (Harmon) Allison of South Point Township, Gaston County, North Carolina. He left a wife, Pearl, in Belmont, Gaston County, NC. Belmont is 13 miles west of Charlotte.

In the 1920 census 7-year-old Fred is living with his parents and siblings Gertrude 25, Buna 16, Blanche 11, and Forest 10, in South Point Township of Gaston County. His father is a security guard at a cotton mill.

In the 1930 census 17-year-old Fred is living with his parents and brother Forest 20, still in South Point Township of Gaston County. His father, Forest and Fred are all laborers at the cotton mill.

In the 1940 census 28-year-old Fred is living with his 22-year-old wife, Pearl, in unincorporated North Belmont. Fred and Pearl are both textile workers in a cotton mill.
Fred enlisted 25 Aug 1943 at Camp Croft, South Carolina. He'd had a grammar school education and was married. He was assigned to the 349th Infantry Regiment of the 88th Infantry Division.

On 1 Jan 1945 the 349th Infantry Regiment was occupying defensive positions at the front in the mountains just south of Bologna, Italy. The three battalions were on the line in a sector between Mt Grande and Mt Belmonte. Patrols continued to probe hostile positions, but heavy snow falls and fog hampered their movements a great deal. On the night of Jan 6-7, a patrol was sent out in darkness and blinding snow near Pizzano to try to capture some Germans. Pizzano is 15 miles south southeast of Bologna. The NARA WWII casualty listings by state and county for North Carolina show Allison, Fred W, Pfc, from Gaston County as killed in action 6 Jan 1945 so we can assume he was killed somewhere near Pizzano.
