James L. Hamilton took part in two hard campaigns before he was killed in action in Italy. He had been through the invasion of North Africa as a member of a machine gun unit. His death occured on October 20, 1944. The soldier was the son of Mrs. Hattie Chase of the Hanford district. He was a graduate of the Kingsburg High School with the class of 1923, and was a store manager before going into the Army.

Mrs. Hattie Chase of Hanford has been notified by the war department her son, Private James L. Hamilton, 38, was killed in action, October 20th in Italy. He previously was reported missing in action.

Hamilton enlisted in 1943 and was sent overseas early this year. He went to school in Kingsburg and lived with his mother on her ranch in Guernsey before entering the service.

Surviving, besides his mother, are his widow, Mrs. Josephine Hamilton; his father, James Fielding Hamilton, and one brother, Val Hamilton of Kingsburg, two sisters, Mrs. Carl Dean (Blanch Mabel) of Dinuba, and Mrs. Clayton W. (Bernice) Hawkins of Hanford.
