Geo. E. Bacon, of 308 Grant avenue, today received a letter from a nurse in a base hospital of the British army in France regarding the death his son, M. D. Bacon, as a result of wounds on the battlefield. Word of his death was received recently by telegram. The nurse wrote that he had died on the way to the hospital. Her letter follows:
In France, Sept. 24, 1918
Dear Mr. Bacon:
I expect you to have already received thru the war office the sad news of the death of your son, Private M. D. Bacon. Unfortunately I cannot give you any details regarding him as he was so seriously wounded that he died on his way down here in the ambulance. He will be laid to rest in the little cemetery near here where so many more of our brave boys already sleep. I hope it is a little comfort to you to know that he is there and not in an unknown grave on the battlefield. His personal belongings will be forwarded to you in due course by the authorities, but it may be some little time ere these reach you. With deepest sympathy, Yours faithfully,
(Sister) A. S. McMillan
