Gordon served in the 4th Field Company of the RCE. They were closely supporting the Royal 22e Regiment northeast of Regalbuto near Carcaci. It was impossible for the Sappers to build a bridge across the river according to the war diaries. There were several casualties that day beside Gordon; Sapper Campbell and Sapper Turner were killed and Sappers Biggs and Cameron were wounded. Gordon was buried in an orange grove and later reburied at Agira.
Gordon lived in London, Ontario where his father also lived. His mother had passed away. He had six brothers of which three were serving in the Canadian Army. He also had one sister.
