Born on the 14th January 1924 in Hackney, Ronald was the son of James Henry Altringham and Henrietta M.A. Altringham (née Lambert). His parents had married in 1921 in London. They lived at 21 Wigan House, Warwick Grove, London E.5. Ronald had a younger sister Marjorie Annie.
His father was employed as a Mason repairing footways and kerbs. He was also a member of the Civil Defence Corps. Ronald's father James died on the 9th May 1940 at Hackney Hospital. Ronald's sister Marjorie died the week before her father on the 2nd May 1940. They rest together in Manor Park Cemetery.
Marine Ronald Altringham was killed during operations at Lake Comacchio, Italy.
