Casualty of the Great War,Leonard was a Seaman in the Newfoundland Royal Naval Reserve~H.M. Mine-sweeper "Lady Ismay".Service No:1331X.He was 29.His ship was mined off the coast of Harwich, England and sank within a minute.

His brother,Private William Bennett
aged 31, also fell [1st July 1916] and is commemorated here with him.He served with the Newfoundland Regiment~Service No:1229.

They were sons of William and Agnes Bennett, of St. John's.
