Captain Talbot Reed, 67th Punjabis, Indian Army was the son of Talbot Baines Reed (writer of childrens books) and Elizabeth Jane Reed of Loxley Cottage, Dunsfold, Surrey.

Educated at Malvern College, Great Malvern, Worcestershire. Gentleman Cadet at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst.

Commissioned into the Indian Army (unattached list) as a 2nd Lieutenant on 5 Aug 1905. Spent his probationary year with the Dorsetshire Regiment in India. He was posted to the 67th Punjabis on 22 Oct 1906.

Promoted to Lieutenant on 5 Nov 1907 and to Captain on 5 Aug 1914 [London Gazette 22 Sep 1914]. He was Adjutant of his Regiment when WW1 started. The Regiment were stationed in Loralai, India (now in Balochistan, Pakistan), and were mobilised and sent to Mesopotamia.

Captain Reed was at home on leave in Aug 1914 and was attached to the 59th Scinde Rifles (Frontier Force) in France, part of the Indian Expeditionary Force deployed to the Western Front.

He was killed in action on 12 Mar 1915 when they attacked the German trenches. All British Officers with the Regiment were either killed or wounded. Captain Reed was wounded in the arm and was brought back under cover but insisted on leading his men and got into the trench at his objective but was shot in the heart and killed.

He was buried in Le Touret Military Cemetery, Richebourg-l'Avoue, Departement du Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France. He was mentioned in despatches [Sir John French, 31 May 1915].
