"Waterloo Daily Courier", Monday, April 10, 1944

E. Earl Cortright, 54, died at 8:30a.m. Monday at his home in Orange Township after a cerebral hemorrhage.

He had farmed in Black Hawk County for the past 26 years, the last 11 of which he had been in present home in Orange Township.

Edward Earl Cortright was born September 14, 1889, in New Hartford, Ia, the son of Edward and Margaret Cortright. He married Effie Strand on April 6., 1912 in Waterloo and they spent their entire married life in Black Hawk county.

He is survived by his widow; two sons, Kenneth E. and Home S., Minneapolis, Minn; three daughters, Mrs. Loren Poyner, 115 Bertch Avenue, Donna and Carole, at home; one brother, Harry Cortright, Nashua, Ia; three sisters, Mrs. Kathryn M. Barton, 904 West First Street, Mrs. Mildred Conlin and Mrs. Iris Bigelow, Cedar Falls; and six grandchildren.

The body was taken to Kearns Garden Chapel

Funeral services for E. Earl Cortright, 54, Orange Township farmer, who died Monday, will be conducted at 2 p. m. Wednesday in Kearns Garden Chapel by Rev. W. H. Yoder, pastor of the Orange Township Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery.
