The Battle of Château-Thierry was fought on 18 July 1918 and was one of the first actions of the American Expeditionary Force (AEF) under General John J. "Black Jack" Pershing. It was a battle in World War I as part of the Second Battle of the Marne, initially prompted by a German offensive launched on 15 July against the AEF, the newest troops on the front.

This is the information about Brasso Famoso that I received from the superintendent of the Oise-Aisne Cemetery: Brasso Famoso was a member of the 1st Division (the Big Red One), and his division was one of the American divisions that kicked off the Aisne-Marne Offensive on 18 July, 1918. They were on the north-west side of the Marne Salient and on 18 July, attacked from Cutry to a line from Breuill to just pass the Cravancon farm. In the following days, the division pressed on toward Buzancy were there is a monument to the 1st Division.

This is just a small detail but I found it on the 1910 census from when he was 18 years old. The census says he was a telegraph messenger.
