His parents were Sherman Sloan and Alice (Sanders) Sloan of New Albany. He was a farmer. William enlisted in Troop D 1st Cavalry Indiana National Guard on August 5, 1917 in New Albany, IN. He was sent to Camp Shelby, Miss and assigned to Company M 152nd Infantry, 38th Division. He embarked from Hoboken, NJ on June 12, 1918. William died on July 28, 1918 from wounds receiced at Chateau-Thierry. He is buried in Fere-en-Tardenois Cemetery, Grave # 63 - north of Chateau-Thierry.
