At the advanced age of 27, Capt. Rarey was called "Dad" by the younger pilots. Rarey, as he preferred to be called, painted the nose art for his squadron, nearly 40 planes in all. Rarey's son, Damon, published a book about his father called "Laughter and Tears" which highlights his fathers letters and artwork.

Awards: Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 8 Oak Leaf Clusters, Purple Heart
