BARABOO — Staff Sgt. Bert Butterfield, 35, of Baraboo, in the 11th Infantry 5th Division has been killed in action in France. Relatives have been notified by the war department and the Purple Heart Medal awarded.
Staff Sgt. Butterfield was killed Sept. 10, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Butterfield, were notified. He spent most of his life in Baraboo, where he worked in the Wickus market. Survivors include his parents, five sisters, and three brothers.
