John had 3 children and his last letter home was received in October, 1944.

Private John D'Alesandro was a brother of Thomas D'Alesandro, Jr., (FAG memorial # 7530614) — who was a U.S. Congressman from the Third district from 1937 to 1947, and Mayor of Baltimore from 1947 to 1959.

Thomas' son 'Tommy' D'Alesandro, (John's nephew) was Mayor of Baltimore from 1967-1971. John's niece (Tommy's sister) is Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

John was "Killed In Action" at the age of 33 in France during the war in France.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
