Andrew was born in Kentucky. Before the war his father worked for the W.P.A. (Works Progress Administration) and he worked for the C.C.C., (Civilian Conservation Corps) Both were government programs to give employment to the poor during the Great Depression . His mother had died in 1929 and there were 6 children in the family.
Andrew served in the Quartermaster Corps in the Philippines. He had enlisted in September of 1941 and was dead less than a year later, .He was captured at the fall of Corregidor in April of 1942 and likely forced on the brutality of the Bataan Death March . POWs of the Japanese endured starvation, torture and filth. He was listed as missing on May 7th. 1942. He died only 4 days after this in a Japanese prison camp of dysentery , but his family did not learn for 2 years what had happened to him.
