Took off from the Russell Islands on an mission to escort B-24s bombing Kahili Airfield (Buin). Over the target, intercepted by Zeros. This Wildcat failed to return and the loss attributed to enemy fighters. Pilot was a member of Fighter Squadron (VF) 27, flying with other detached squadrons of CARDIV 22.
Memorials
Dalton was officially declared dead on January 7, 1946. He is memorialized on the tablets of the missing at Manila American Cemetery.
