Captain Sandell was killed in action with the Headquarters Section on 12-25-1942 while serving with the 128th Infantry Regiment, 32nd Infantry Division at Buna in New Guinea. This Battle started on 11-19-1942, and finished on 1-2-1943.

He is the son of Mrs. Rose Hart of Dixon, Illinois, and the husband of Mrs. Elizabeth {Newton} Sandell of Chillicothe, Illinois, and the father of two children, Miss Sara Ann, and Edward N.Sandell, 3, all at home.

Mr. & Mrs. Sandell were married in Peoria in 1937, and the two met at St. Francis Hospital in Peoria while he was at Bradley College working as a Lab Tech, and she was a graduate Nurse.

He was awarded the Silver Star for some dangerous Recon work at Buna in New Guinea. General Orders # 7, 1943.
