In the 1940 census 17-year-old John is living with his parents and siblings Philip 19, Josephine 12, Lucy 9, Ann 7, and Anthony Jr 5, at 17 Chestnut St., in Paterson. His father is a laborer for a scrap iron company. Brother Philip is a laborer in a paper box factory. John is listed a s a “new worker”.
On his 1940 draft registration John listed as next of kin his married sister Rose Corsaro, also residing at 17 Chestnut.
John was assigned to the 675th Glider Field Artillery of the 11th Airborne Division. This was a unit of modified 105mm Howitzers, short barrel with split trails, to fit in the gliders for transport to battle areas.
In March 1945, once Manila was declared secure, the 11th AB Division reduced a strong ring of enemy outposts between Lake Taal and Laguna Lake south of Manilla, and occupied towns along Highway No. 1, cutting off the Bicol Peninsula.
The NARA WWII casualty listings by state and county for New Jersey show Alberic, John J, Pvt from Passaic County as died of wounds 4 Apr 1945, so we don’t know the exact date and therefore the location he was mortally wounded but we can assume it was generally south of Manilla in the Lake Taal, Laguna Lake area.
