Joseph Ennis Jr. perished on the ship the USS "Escolar" on October 19,1944. He saw action in New Guinea and the Phillipines. Joseph was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously. He was a First Class Seaman and his duties included knowledge of naval drill duties,singalman,standing watch, steering and gunnery duties. There were a total of 52 men on board the Escolar when it sunk. Memorial markers for and graves for more than 17,000 men and women who perished in WWII are at "Tablets of the Missing", a 152 acre U.S.military cemetery in Manila,Phillipines.
