Company C, 31st Infantry Regiment

Abucay, Bataan - "At night, Japanese snipers infiltrated through gaps in the line and climbed trees to await their quarry. Shortly after daybreak on January 21, a sniper's bullet found its victim in C Company. Corporal Charles Peterson lay sprawled in the dirt, quivering, with blood oozing from his temple. In a moment he was still. "Oh God, he's dead, my buddy's dead," sobbed PFC Andrew Nickerson as he stood staring at Peterson's lifeless face."
