Death claimed Mrs. John Stemper, Sr., of this city, on Monday morning at 2:30, after a year’s illness with dropsy.
Barbara Stemper, nee Grabinger, was born in Germany on May 12, 1850. She emigrated to this country with her parents, as a child. After her marriage on March 5, 1872 to Mr. Stemper, they moved onto a farm near Port Washington, where they lived for four years, then coming to the town of New Holstein. Eight years ago they sold their farm to their son, John and moved to Kiel. Mr. Stemper survives her.
Ten children were born to them, all are living, as follows; Mrs. Koehler of Charlestown, N.J. Stemper of Russell, Mrs. Anton Raeder of the town of New Holstein, Mrs. A. Weyker of Racine, Mrs. Bernhard Voigt of Portland, Oregon, John Stemper on the homestead, Mrs. A. Keller and Ed Stemper of Kohler, and Mrs. J. Haas and Mrs. H. Mitter of Barton. There are also a brother, Mr. Grabinger of Random Lake, and a sister, Mrs. Wiskerchen of Pierce county; 29 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held at St. Peter & Paul’s Catholic Church on Friday morning, officiated by Rev. Roder. The remains will be interred in the cemetery at St. Anna.
