AKA: Skippy, Skip
A precious black and white Terrier/Sheltie mix. My sister took my 8 year old daughter to the animal shelter to get her a puppy for Christmas in 1991. There was a mother Sheltie there with four puppies about 4 weeks old. My daughter chose one of the puppies - a little black and white fur ball. They told them they were going to put the mother and other puppies to sleep after Christmas, so the day after Christmas we called to try to save them all. They told us someone had come in on Christmas Eve and took the mother and other three puppies, and we were so happy they were saved.

Skipper was devoted to me and went everywhere I went, even on vacation. She is one of the smartest dogs I've ever known. She slept on the bed like a person - under the covers, on her back with her head on the pillow and her front feet hanging over the covers.

She developed bladder cancer in late 2004 and no medicine helped. She got weaker and weaker and would no longer eat. The last morning, I laid her on a blanket on the back porch so she could be in the sunshine for a while. I told her I'd take care of her so she wouldn't be in pain anymore. I never did anything so hard as taking her to the vet that day.

I buried her at the barn, near Spot. She was 13 years old.

Thanks to all who have left hello's for my Skipper. I know she's wagging her tail when you do that.
