HARRISONBURG - Ora Bell Whitlock, 87, a resident of Liberty House Nursing Home, Harrisonburg, died at 6:20 p.m. Monday (Feb.25, 1991) at the home. She was born April 6, 1903, in Nelson Co., a daughter of Richard Lee and Ida Bell Truslow.
She was a member of Wintergreen Christian Church Disciples of Christ, where she was a member of the Sunday school class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Franklin Whitlock, in 1960. (NOTE: Death date is in error, he died March 13, 1963 according to social security records and his tombstone inscription.)
Survivors include one son, James Franklin Whitlock of Stuarts Draft; one daughter, Joyce Slayton of Farmville; a number of grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Wintergreen Christian Church by the Rev. Ray Coffey. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, located on Stoney Creek Rd.
Active pallbearers will be Herbert Truslow, Frank Napier, Norman Napier, Page Grove, Mack Campbell, Marty Davies, Raymond Spitler, Clyde Henkle and Paul Desper.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Waynesboro chapel of Etter Funeral Home.
Thomas and Ora were married on July 17, 1937 in Nelson County.
