John married Millie Ethel Irwin on 28 January 1920 in Springfield, IL and they had three children: Mildred, Norma, and John. In his teens, John worked as a farm laborer. After moving to Springfield, John had his own coal hauling business, John Hart Coal Co. Later, he was employed by Illini Country Club, Franklin Life Ins. Co., and Electrolux.
John W. Hart died on his 52nd wedding anniversary.
