Jeanette Ladwig, 92, Barnesville
Jeanette R. Ladwig, 92, of Barnesville, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009, in Innovis Hospital, Fargo.
Jeanette, daughter of Marion and Emma (Ulrich) Henry, was born Dec. 5, 1916, on her family farm near Downer, Minn. She attended school and grew to womanhood in the Downer-Barnesville area, graduating from Barnesville High School in 1934.
Jeanette married Arthur Ladwig of rural Barnesville in November of 1935. The couple made their home and farmed in Prairie View Township in Wilkin County.
In 1964 she moved to Minneapolis and was employed at the University of Minnesota Administration Department, until her retirement in 1988. At this time she returned to Barnesville where she was active in many community affairs. She became a resident of the Barnesville Good Samaritan Society in July of 2008 where she lived until the time of her death.
Jeanette was a member of St. James United Church of Christ, the Ladies Guild and was very active in the life of her church. In 1993 she was named Outstanding Senior Citizen of Clay County. She served as president of the Barnesville Senior Citizens, the Good Samaritan Auxiliary, volunteered for HELPERS and delivered meals on wheels.
She assisted in the planning of the Golden Manor and senior housing in Barnesville. Jeanette served as sextant for the Elkton Cemetery and was instrumental in the preservation and upkeep of this pioneer cemetery.
Jeanette traveled extensively and she enjoyed family gatherings, playing cards, gardening (especially flowers) and visiting with friends.
She is survived by two daughters and one son: Phyllis (Mervin) Freeman of Richville, Minn., Allan (Judy) Ladwig of Canon City, Colo., and Patricia (George) Sandstrom of Burlington, Wis.; seven grandchildren: Deborah (Tom) Pyles of Loveland, Colo., David (Margie) Freeman of Dallas, Texas, Mark (Julie) Ladwig of Lake Orion, Mich., Todd (Desiree) Sandstrom of Hartland, Wis., Jill Freeman (Andrew Owens) of Minneapolis, Carmen (Garth) Brown of Findlay, Ohio, and Scott Freeman of Las Vegas, Nev.; 16 great-grandchildren; and her special friend, Gerald Palmer of Barnesville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Roy, Joe and George; and one sister, Eva Doyle.
The family is grateful for the excellent care and kindness provided by the staff at the Good Samaritan Society, Innovis Hospital and the Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Visitation: Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home and two hours before the service at the church
