Roy (Buster) H. Barker, 85, of Simpsonville, SC, formerly of Columbus, IN, passed away at Greenville Memorial Hospital, in Greenville, SC on Saturday, July 31, 2010.
Born in Hazard, KY on January 19, 1925, he was the son of the late Willard Barker and Ruth (Brooks) Barker.
Roy was a veteran and served in the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 24, a Mason and a Shriner. He was a member of Standing Springs Baptist Church of Simpsonville, SC. He retired from Reliance Electric Company in Columbus, IN.
He is survived by his wife, Faye Barker (Barnett) of 63 years. In addition to his wife and four children, Carolyn (Clyde) Bridwell, Larry (Pam) Barker, Janice (Philip) Dewar, and Donna (Bruce) Clegg; also surviving are six grandchildren, Michael Grooms, Kimberly Grooms, Brian Barker, Holly (Barker) Brotzman, Darren Ison, George Clegg; nine great grandchildren; brother, Roger Barker; and sister, Betty Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leo Barker, Lloyd Barker; and two sisters, Pauline Spencer and Geraldine Campbell.
Funeral services will be held at Voss Chapel on Saturday, August 7, at 10:00 AM, with Pastor Roger Dale Campbell officiating.
Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour, with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour. There will be a Voss Dove release.
Friends may call at Voss Chapel on Friday, August 6, from 4:00-8:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of service.
