President of First National Bank
Son of William Schmick (1810-1879) and Rhonda Brookhart (1797-1890)
SCHMICK, William H
B. 27 June 1837.
D. 9 Nov 1886 in Leetonia, Columbiana Co. OH at 49y 4m 12d
Burial 12 Nov 1886 in Oakdale Cemetery, Leetonia, Columbiana Co. OH
Mahoning Dispatch, Fri, 12 Nov 1886
"Mr. W. H. Schmick, formerly a well-known citizen of Canfield, but more recently
of Leetonia, died at his home in the latter village on Wednesday morning, the
9th inst, of Bright's disease. The deceased began his business career in
Canfield, engaging in mercantile pursuits with most marked success. As a
characteristic, he trusted nothing to circumstances or fortuitous accident. All
his transactions from smallest to greatest were conducted on strictest business
principles. Devoid of that low cunning, too often miscalled "harp
qualifications," his intercourse with the public was honest, open and honorable.
Established in the tenets and rules governing fluctuations in the word of
commerce, he was seldom caught at disadvantage. In commercial law he was good
authority. Possessing nerve to face disaster if it came, but confident in his
knowledge of principles, he was deliberate, farseeing and saquacious. After
removing to Leetonia, he engaged in the business of banking and iron and coal
ventures of large financial character, in all of which he met with unvarying
success. Unmarried, he made his home with his father, William Schmick, Esq.
Former sheriff of Mahoning county, where he died in his 50th year. Without
enthusiasm, nor demonstrative, his friendships were warm and sincere. He will
be remembered long after the damp of death now upon his forehead has turned to
mold, the impress of decay and regretted."
"William Schmick, president of the First National Bank, died on the evening of
the 9thult, of a complication of chronic diseases Funeral on Friday."
"Leetonia - Wm. Schmick, for many years a citizen of this place, died at his
