Edwin Mortimer Hutcherson was born 5/10/1870 in Saline County, MO and died of a heart attack on 1/6/1937. He was raised on the family farm across the highway from Shackleford. Sometime around 1890 he went west to look for gold in the Colorado mountains. It is not known whether he found his fortune but his son Ralph related that in June 1892 he was working in Creede, Colorado in Bob Ford's tent saloon (the downtown area had just suffered a devastating fire) carrying hot water for the bath house. On June 7th he left Creede on the train to return to Missouri. While riding the train he learned that Bob Ford had been shot by a former member of the James Gang in retaliation for Ford's murder of Jesse James.

He married Mary Lacy (Mamie) Hume on 9/11/1895. Edwin and Mamie Hutcherson settled on a farm south of his father's (southeast of Shackelford) where he was farmer and a rancher.

Records show that in 1910 he was on the school board for District 4, Township 50, Range 22, Sunny Side School where is his children attended. Edwin and Mamie had 7 children:

William Charles (1895 – 1964) lived in Marshall, MO and was a rancher and he married Leona Wagner.
Lura Hume (7/26/1896 – 1980s) lived in Marshall, MO and was a teacher and she married Lucian Harrison.
Edwin Milton (1900 -1990s) lived in Marshall, MO and then in Modesto, CA and was a rancher and he married Nina Hughes.
Ralph Leroy (1/9/1903 – 8/2/1987) lived in Marshall, MO and was a rancher and he married Stella Duncan.
Mary Anna (1905 – 1973) lived in Sweet Springs, MO and was a teacher and she married Joel Scott.
Edna Lorine (8/31/1907 – 9/17/1961) lived in Marshall, MO and Kansas City, MO and was a teacher and secretary and she married William Earl Blackburn.
Nellie Louise (12/15/1909 – 2002) lived in Marshall, MO, Modesto, CA, Mill Valley, CA. and Petaluma, CA. and was a teacher and she married Clifton Craig.
