Michael S. "Mike " Serra, 80, of Bristol, formerly of Meriden, died Sunday, August 8, 2010 at The Pines at Bristol after several months of cancer treatment. Mike was born in Middletown on May 22, 1930 and was a son of the late Luigi and Rosaria (Sbona) Serra. He is survived by his two daughters: Sharon Russo of Bristol, and Michelle Serra of Northampton, MA who admired their father's courage and spirit during his final weeks, a grandson Michael Russo of Burlington, and great granddaughters: Mariah and Melinda Russo. Mike was good natured, intelligent, and made many friends over the years. He loved to cook Italian style, and his entrepreneurial spirit led him to open several restaurants. His skills in carpentry and construction spurred another career as a general contractor in Connecticut and western Massachusetts. Mike's family will miss him dearly. They are grateful for the caring staff at Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden, The Pines at Bristol, and Vitas Hospice. "Addio" Michael A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated on Thursday, August 12, 2010, 12:00 NOON, at St. Gregory Church, Bristol. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meriden.
