James Monroe Lippincott enrolled in Sept of 1862 for 9 months service as a private in Company K, 29th New Jersey Regiment at Freehold, New Jersey. The Regiment took part in the engagements at Fredericksburg, Va. in December of 1862 and Chancellorsville, Va. in May of 1863. He mustered out at Freehold on June 30, 1863.
An invalid claim was filed in August of 1890. It stated he was born on April 19, 1841 in Farmingdale, New Jersey, the son of Samuel and Rachael Lippincott. He lived with his sister, had never married and had no issue. He was described as being “very deaf”. The pension file contained a hand written note that he was killed on February 29th 1916 by a Central RR train at Farmingtondale, N. J.
