Mrs. P.W.Goodson, Sr. pioneer citizen of Cass County, passed away at 8:30 pm Saturday, Nov 2 at her home in the Goodson community, the community being named for her husband, the late P. W. Goodson. Mrs. Goodson was ill only a short time though she had not been strong for sometime. She was 88 years, 10 months and 17 days old at the time of her passing. She was living with her daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Carney Niblett, in a home, which is one of the county landmarks. It was built by her father, Mr. Blanton, when she was just a small child, on the Blanton farm, which was given as a land patent to her father while Texas was still a republic. Since that time the farm has never been owned by anyone except direct descendents of the family. On December 13, 1877, she was married to Mr. P.W. Goodson, an outstanding mill man, farmer, and director of the First National Bank at Hughes Springs. To this union were born 11 children, six of whom survive. They are Mrs. Susie Lineburger, Hughes Springs; Mrs. Robena Ayers, Linden; John A. Goodson, Hughes Springs; Mrs. Julia Patman, Hughes Springs; Mrs. Nora Crouch, Shreveport; Mrs. Mallie Niblett, Hughes Springs. Two brothers and one sister also survive; they are Johnnie Blanton, Fort Worth; Tommie Blanton, Austin; and Mrs. Mattie Inman, Childress. Mrs. Goodson was one of 16 children of her parents. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. November 4 at the Hopewell Baptist Church. Rev. J. N. Campbell, Rev. A. P. Pearce and Rev. G. F. Lee were in charge of the services, Mrs. Kate Watkins was pianist, and Vince Whittington directed the music. Mrs. Goodson united with the Baptist Church when she was just a young girl, and at the time of her passing her membership was with the Hopewell Church. Her husband and herself were active in organizing this church, and at the present time members of her family are some of the church's most active members. Six grandsons served as active pallbearers. They were Finis Lineberger, Ray Goodson, Lewis Booker, J. A. Goodson, Jr., Freeman Ayers, and Homer Goodson. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. A. E. Starnes, Dr. H.L.D. Jenkins, Barney McDaniel, Rubin Strickland, Earl Strickland, Vince Whittington, J.L. Patman, Finis Wallace, J.D. Hooton, John Leftwich, Jim Strickland, Horace Latham, L. T. Jordan, R. M. Kasling, A.G. Daniels, R. H. Gibson, Oscar Watkins, Lee Perkins, J. M. Holt, Aubrey Wallace, J.M. Sheffield, E.G. McMillan, Ben Ray Caperton, Forrest Strickland, Clarence Niblett, John Booker and B.D. Dural. Burial was in the Sardis Cemetery with Reeder Watson Funeral Home in charge.
