John L. Schwab, 79, died at 1:40 a.m. Aug. 12, 2010, at Putnam Acres Care Center, Ottawa.He was born July 24, 1931 in Putnam County to the late Leonard W. and Frances G. (Conine) Schwab. He had been married to Wilma Pickering and she is deceased. On August 1, 1970 he married Betty Jane Closson who died March 17, 2004.

He is survived by 2 sons: John (LeAnn) Schwab of Defiance and Marvin Schwab of Alger; 2 daughters: Connie Borkosty of Defiance and Linda Larry of Hicksville; a stepson: Larry Closson of Van Wert; 2 stepdaughters: Diana (Don) Fischer of Kalida and Nancy (Dave) Brinkman of Glandorf; 10 grandchildren; 15 step grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; 2 brothers: Don (Shirleen) Schwab of Ottawa and Dick (Mary) Schwab of Columbus Grove; and 2 sisters: Debra Shaw of Lima and Mary Lou Davies of Findlay.

He was preceded in death by a daughter: Mary Ellen Schwab; a brother: Clarence Schwab; 2 sisters: JoAnn Scarberry and Donna Oman; a son-in-law: David Larry; a stepdaughter: Barbara Longwell; a stepdaughter-in-law: Sandra Closson; and a grandson: David Larry, Jr.

Mr. Schwab was a millworker at Ottawa Feed and Grain. He was a member of Ottawa Eagles # 2234 and was named 2010 Putnam County Outstanding Senior Citizen by the Putnam County Council on Aging.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at Harman Cemetery, Gilboa.
