D. H. Smith, Stony Pioneer, Dies After Week's Illiness
Stony--Feb. 10--D. H. Smith, Denton County Pioneer, aged 73, died at his home at 8 o'clock Tuesday morning after having been in ill health for the last 2 years.
Funeral services were to be conducted at his home Wednesday at 10 am followed by burial at Jackson Cemetery.
All of Smiths children, all grandchildren but one, two brothers and other relations were here for the funeral.
Immediate relatives surviving are: six children; Mrs. Eileen Willis, Ft. Worth; W. J. Smith, Ponder; Mrs. Pearl Willis, Henrietta; Mrs. J. M. Gann, Justin; G. B. Smith, Ponder; Miss Florence Smith, Los Angeles, California: seventeen grandchildren; Mrs. Hugh Williams, Rochester, New York: Hooper, Cleo and Olin Willis: Joeldean Green: Mamie Carroll, Billy Glen, Sophia and Stanley Smith: John, Houston, Bert, Mood Jrl, George, Peddy and Newton Gann: Georgia Bell Smith: three brothers; G. W. Smith and W. L. Smith, Ponder and J. F. Smith, Fluvanna.
D. H. Smith was born in Hawkins County, Tennessee, October 19, 1853. After his marrying to Miss Mollie E. Smith, they removed to Texas 38 years ago and settled in Denton County. Eleven children were born, 6 of whom are now living, Mrs. Smith died April 24, 1909.
All grandchildren except Mrs. Williams of Rochester, New York are here.
