Thelma never had children of her own. When my cousin Conita was born she became the apple of Aunt Thelma's eye. I was also somewhat close to Aunt Thelma but not like Conita. My family moved to town when I was a little older so I did not
spend much of my younger years with her.

Aunt Thelma liked to cook and she never threw anything out. My dad has told the story of her scraping mold off of gravy and then heating and serving the gravy.

One time I was helping Aunt Thelma make some pie crust or bread dough and I was making a mess with the flour. I apologized but she said, "A good cook is a sloppy cook."
Whenever people help me cook and they find themselves in the same situation I hear her words again and I share them.

She and Buler Guinn ran a tavern on the square in Greenfield. My brother told me they also had a used furniture store.

According to my Aunt Connie, Aunt Thelma never drove. I do remember her telling the story of how you could go to Sears and buy a drivers license for the whole family for 35 cents. When I was little my mother would take Aunt Thelma places and
eventually my Aunt Connie took over the task. Aunt Thelma always owned a car even though she never drove.

Aunt Thelma also had an unusual sense of color. I remember her bathroom being painted a deep purple. The outside of her house was a light pea green. There were other colors but those are the ones I remember.

I also remember that she had two old toy cars that you could set in and peddle.

Aunt Thelma also had a reputation of being a tight wad.

She was always kind.
