William was a retired Coal Miner. He had worked in the coal mines around Pittsburg most of his life. He was born on a farm in Marshall Co., Indiana in 1866 during the Civil War. InIn 1879 he moved to Iroquois, Onarga Twp., Ill. Later moved to Ava, Douglas Co., MO then to Pittsburg, Baker Co., KS. William was well known around Pittsburg for his beautiful rose bushes and his family garden.In 1955 he took a written drivers license examination and failed due to poor eyesight but claiming to be 100 years old got him National Newspaper Coverage and a photo inseveral newspapers sitting in his Model A car...
