Russ passed away on August 11, 2010 after courageously fighting a two-year battle with cancer. He left the earthly embrace of his son and wife and returned to that of his Heavenly Father.

Russ was born May 16, 1939 to Harry and Hannah Ballard.

Russ was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served a mission to Germany, where he gained a life long testimony of his Savior Jesus Christ.

Russ worked as a firefighter for Salt Lake City Fire for thirty years.

Upon his retirement, Russ lovingly cared for his father and mother in their ailing years. Russ loved sports, both as a spectator and a participant. He was an avid fan of BYU football and the Boston Red Socks. A talented athlete, Russ played baseball in various leagues throughout his life.

On February 26, 2002, Russ married his sweetheart, Joyce. Although their time together was cut short, they were able to spend nine happy years together.

Russ loved his family. He was a great father to his son Brandon and an adoring grandfather to Ashton and Nicole. He shared a close bond with his brothers Kent and Ryan.

Russ' quick wit and dry sense of humor made him a favorite of his nieces and nephews. He also loved Joyce's children and grandchildren very much. Russ valued his friendships. Especially, that of his best friend Joe. Breakfast at Mo's will not be the same without Russ there.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Murray Twelfth Ward Chapel, 363 East Vine Street, Murray, Utah, with a viewing on Sunday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State Street (100 East), Murray, and one hour prior to the services at the Church.
Interment: Draper City Cemetery.
