Ura Princess (Princess) Dickerson born on 7 November 1892, was the fifth child of Eli Stuart Dickerson and Sarah Frances Marshall Dickerson. There were ten children in Eli's and Sarah's family./// Princess grew up in the Laurel Fork area with her large family and became a beautiful woman who caught the eye of her future husband, Delmon (Del) McGrady, a son of a prosperous family nearby../// They were married in 1911 and bore eight children together; Alva, Poe, Wise, Clyde, Eura, Rhea, Nova and Garnett. Alva, the oldest, was 24 years older than Garnett, the youngest.///With her help and encouragement, Del began his career as a farmer and businessman. They built a large home along side Pine Creek, a tributary that led to the Big Reed Island Creek. In this house, the first seven children were born and raised./// At that time Del owned and operated a small country store on Gladesboro road in the community of Crooked Oak. As he became more successful he built a much larger building to become his General Mercantile Store, and also built a much bigger and more modern home for his family in Crooked Oak. In addition to the house and store, there were barns for the cattle, horses, sheep, and corn cribs, tool sheds, and the usual buildings of a farm at the time./// Due to the hard work and business sense of Del and the help of Princess and the children, the farm and business prospered to become a very successful operation.///Princess was a wonderful wife and mother, who always put others in the family before herself. She was loved and admired by all who knew her.///Princess became bedridden near the end of her life and died from stomach cancer.///But she had accomplished her life's goal to see her eight children become healthy and successful adults.
