Died from disease 2 Mar 1919 of complications from pneumonia at a base hospital at Lille, France. BOLINGER was attached to the Belgian Food Commission, transporting food relief into Belgium from France. On his last trip, which lasted 19 days, he caught pneumonia.

Originally buried in French soil, remains returned to the US and re-interred in Arlington National Cemetery, VA (Section 18 Site 787) on 23 Dec 1920.
