Dorothy M. Carpenter, 74, formerly of Cookeville, Tenn., died Thursday at Hill Haven Nursing Home after a long illness.

Mrs. Carpenter was a native of Syracuse. She moved to Tennessee in 1975 and returned to Syracuse in 1994.

She was a member of the Church of Christ of Liverpool.

Surviving are her husband, Walter W.; two daughters, Christine Carpenter of Columbia, Mo., and Catherine Carpenter of Clay; one son, Charles of Syracuse; one brother, George Checksfield of Syracuse; three sisters, Edith Jayne, Ann Craver and Margaret Patel, all of Syracuse; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fergerson Funeral Home. Spring burial will be in Constantia Center.

Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, 215 S. Main St., North Syracuse.
