Rev. L. Keith Wilson

Rev. L. Keith Wilson, 85, of Athens, died Friday night, Aug. 13, 2010, at the residence of his daughter, Shirley King, in Riceville.

A native of Alcoa, he was a son of the late John H. and Ona Woody Wilson, and was also preceded in death by one sister, Ruby McElhaney; and one brother, John W. Wilson. He was a member of Cog Hill Baptist Church, and had pastored at New Bethel Baptist Church, Cog Hill Baptist Church twice, First Baptist Church of Riceville, Walnut Grove Baptist in Meigs County, and Rocky Mount Baptist, and had served as moderator of the McMinn-Meigs Baptist Association.

He was associated with Bowater in the instrument department for 20 years until his retirement, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He also had served as the State of Tennessee Electrical Inspector in the McMinn County area.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Borden Wilson of Athens; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Larry Gann of Athens, Jo Ann and Danny Wilson of Etowah, and Shirley and the Rev. Gary King of Riceville; one son and daughter-in-law, L. Keith Jr. and Annie Wilson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two sisters, Pearl Anderson of Texas, and Martha Ann Baskins of Maryville; four granddaughters, Ginger Williams, Katrina Wilson, Kristie Wilson and Danielle Wilson; four grandsons, Dwayne Gann, Anthony Wilson, Michael King and Joe King; 13 great-grandchildren, Kaylan Williams, Lauren Williams, Braeden King, Elizabeth King, Levi King, Ainsley King, Anthony Michael Wilson, Xavier Wilson, Alisha Gann, Rose Gann, Sarah Wilson, Levi Wilson and Kailyn Johnson; and a special friend of the family, Glenda Kelly of Athens.

The family wishes to give a special thank you to Caris Hospice.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home & Cremation Service with the Rev. Gary King and lay speakers Jim Curtis and Greg Tipton officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Cog Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dwayne Gann, Chad Henry, Michael King, Matt Curtis, Joe King, Freddy McElhaney, Braeden King, Wayne Wilson and Danny Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Cog Hill Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
