SGT Matheson was featured in the June 27, 1969 LIFE magazine cover story entitled "The Faces of the American Dead in Vietnam: One Week's Toll.
Other Company D, 2/506th Infantry men who were KIA on May 23, 1969:
SSG Heriberto Marrero-Estrada, Bayamon, PR; SGT Kenneth D. Shoaps, Grosse Pointe Wood, MI; CPL Jose M. Galarza-Quinones, Rio Piedras, PR; PFC Douglas J. Sommer, Kearns, UT.
SGT Matheson's awards included the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart.
