Wife of Prominent Jacksonville Banker Succumbs at Home in Monaco
Funeral services for Mrs. Bion H. Barnett, wife of the Jacksonville banker, who died Wednesday at her villa, La Biondella, in Monte Carlo, after an illness of several months, will be held today in the famous Monaco city.
Mr. Barnett is chairman of the board of directors of the Barnett National Bank of Jacksonville. He was at Mrs. Barnett's bedside when she died.
Mrs. Barnett was born May 6, 1867 at Norfolk, Va., the daughter of Alexander Taylor Bell.
She was a woman of great charm and attractiveness and was beloved by a large circle of friends, who will mourn with real grief her passing. A great deal of her time was spent in Jacksonville, but she had lived abroad most of the time in recent years.
She is survived by her husband; her daughters, Anna Hardy Owen, wife of H. L./H. Owen, Esq. of Candlesby Hall, Burghle-Marsh, Lincolnshire, England, and Isabel Fernandez Phillips, widow of the late Capt. Richard Y. Phillips, of Greystones, Nanyuki, Post Office, Kenya Colony, British East Africa; her sisters, Margaret Souler Turk, wife of Dr. Milton H. Turk, formerly dean of Hobart College at Geneva, N.Y., and Dame Laura A. B. Crane of London, Eng,; her brother, Dr. William Jarvis Bell, Charnwood House, Osmaston Road, Derby, Eng.; her grandchildren, Mary Barnett Phillips, Arthur Ernest Bion Owen and Elizabeth Owen; her nieces Margaret Soutter Turk, Virginia Bell, Constance Bell Wolfe-Barny, and Esther Turk Hemmings, and by one grand-nephew, John S. Hemmings of New York State.
