Ellen was my husband's Great-Aunt

She was the 3rd of 8 children born to John M. Hopperdietzel & Leila Kehl.

She was married twice. Her first husband was William F. Doering who she married on April 23, 1936. They had no children together.

Her second husband was Roy B. Schaefer who she married on Oct. 20, 1955. They had no children together.

Ellen D. Schaefer

Ellen D. Schaefer, 83, of 205 E. Townline Road, Athens, died Thursday, June 29, 1911, in Athens, the daughter of the late John and Leila (Kehl) Hopperdietzel. She married William Doering on April 23, 1936. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1944. She then married Roy B. Schaefer on Oct. 20, 1956, in Athens. He preceded her in death on March 10, 1991.

Ellen had been employed at the Bank of Athens, the Athens Post Office, Deedon's Store, and was a mink rancher. During her life she enjoyed bowling, golfing, painting, fishing, hunting, gardening, and playing cards. She lived in the house she was born in until being hospitalized one month ago.

Survivors include two sisters, Grace Smith, Wausau, and Dorothy "Bitsy" (Marvin) Ewan, Athens; one sister-in-law, Alice Hopperdietzel, Abbotsford, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, Walter and Robert; and two sisters, Mary Fletcher, and Lucille Baneck.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 3, 1995, at Christ United Church, Athens. The Rev. Kenneth A Dix will officiate. Burial will be in the Athens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Monday until the time of services at the church.

Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.
