At this time the parents of Thomas Clark are unknown. His birth in Germany is found on his tombstone.

Evidence points to Thomas Clark serving in the Revolutionary War guarding the Hanover Powder Magazine:
Council Journals, Vol.1
- Sat., Aug. 24, 1776, p. 132 - "warrant issued to Humphrey Harwood for five pounds for use of Thomas Clark"
- Sept., 14, 1776, p 162 - "order that a Warrant issue to Thomas Clark for six pounds, ten shillings for two guns furnished the Amelia Battalion of Minute men"

Council Journals, Vol.2
- Nov., 10, 1778, p. 213 - "A warrant was issued for one hundred pounds payable to Colonel John Syme for the use of Thomas Clark upon account to provide provisions for the guard over the public powder in Hanover"
- Sat., Dec. 19, 1778, p 244 - "a Warrant was issued upon the Treasurer for 350 pounds payable to Colonel John Syme for the use of Thomas Clark upon account to purchase provisions for the guard over the power magazine in Hanover"

- Monday., Feb. 11, 1782, p. 42 - "On recommendation Thomas Clark and Nathaniel Tally are appointed inspectors and Ambrose Lipscomb Assistant inspector at Pages Warehouse."

Thomas Clark married Winifred (Wineford) Mahoney on 1 May 1794 in Shenandoah, Va.
Family records show that they had at least two children:
- Daniel Clark
- Mary "Polly" Clark

A certified copy, dated 5 May, 1964, of the Waman Clark family bible, that belonged to Mrs. Herbert Young West, mother of Mrs. Mary West Keisling of Sparta, TN states:
"Thomas Clark Father of Danl Clark Born in Germany
Died in White County, Tennessee in Aug., 1809"
"Wineford Clark wife of Thos. Clark was born in Culpepper (sic) Co. Va.
& died in White Co., Tenn. March 21 1850 - Aged 84 years"
