"Loyd Cummings Died Nov. 18, 1869 in the 77 year of his age. Deceased was a native of Bristol Co. Massachusetts where he early acquired a fondness for the sea. at the age of 24 he quit his native state and was employed on board the schooner Merino, Capt. Lawton commander of Rhode Island. After an experience of two years he abandoned the water in 1818 and soon after emigrated to Clark County, Indiana. Here he was joined in marriage to Miss Abagail Duncan, who survives him. He removed to Owen County in 1822, settling near Gosport: here he continued to reside till 1834 where he again changed his residence and settled on the Morgan and Putnam County line, where he remained till the day of his death. Mr. Cummings was the father of 11 children 10 of whom are living, and all grown and married save one. He joined the M.E. Church in 1842, and at the close of a consistent Christian life he was taken to his reward above."
