Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Mayfield--aged 82 years, 10 months and 4 days, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. B. Keyes, of Second Avenue East, Horton, Kansas, Friday morning, February 12, 1926, at 5;25 o'clock. She had been in ill health for three months, but had only been bedfast four weeks.

She was born April 8, 1843, in the state of Pennsylvania. Before the civil war her father moved to Missouri and homesteaded there. Here she grew to womanhood, and on December 24, 1866, she was married to Abraham M. Mayfield, a veteran of almost four years in the civil war, seeing service in the Sixth Missouri Cavalry.

To this Union were born eleven children, four of them dying in infancy. The six children surviving, are Mrs. John (Emma) Sipe of Springfield, Mo.; Mrs. D. B. (Rosa) Keyes of Horton, Kansas; C. O. Mayfield of Atchison, Kansas; L. J. Mayfield of Ulman, Mo.; John W. Mayfield of Yuba City, California; Joseph Mayfield of Salem, Mo. She is also survived by two brothers and two sisters; Llewellyn James of Kansas; J. D. James of Iberia, Mo.; Mrs. Sarah James Livingston of Iberia, Mo.; Mrs. Martha Wilmouth of Denver, Colo. There are twenty-four grandchildren living and eight dead.

On May 27, 1898, her husband was killed in a runaway on his farm. For the next few years she lived with her son, Joseph on his farm. Then she moved to Ulman and from there to Horton, Kansas.

Some forty-five years ago she united with the Baptist Church.

It is worth noting that all her children are Christians and members of the Baptist Church. Her faith was always evident and during her last days she often spoke of the long life that had been given her and her perfect will that while she did not see the use of her life she felt certain that the Lord was working out some good purpose.

Her son, C. O. of Atchison was with her in her last hours.

Funeral services were conducted at the First Baptist Church at Horton Saturday afternoon at 3;30. Rev. Rayes Hillger officiated. Music was furnished by a quartet, consisting of Rev. Hilger, Thelma Merz, Mr. Dymer and Mr. Bates. Pallbearers were; Joe Fattig, Frank Goutz, Mr. Griffith, Charles Broadhurst, W. W. Johnson and Raymond Christ.

Her children from Kansas accompanied the body to Miller Co., her former home, and interment was made in the Livingston cemetery Sunday afternoon. A short service was conducted at the cemetery. All the children were present except John W. of Yuba City, California.
