Prominent retired grocery man of Riverton. Son of Samuel and Mary Hendrix, early settlers in Sangamon county. For many years he resided on a farm north of Barclay and operated a general merchandise store there. He was one of the two last surviving charter members of the Barclay camp of the Modern Woodmen of America. Survived by wife Mary; son Samuel and sisters Mrs. Irene Freeman, Mrs. Mary Jones and Mrs. Cynthia Marshall.

Of a kindly nature, he made many acquaintances who familiarly knew him as "Butch" Hendrix. The mention of his name recalls to his numerous friends many acts of kindness which made him one of the most beloved residents of the community which he served during the long period of his life. - Illinois State Journal, Springfield, IL, 12-6-1923
