Jack W. Schone, 65, of Viola died Thursday, June 3, 1999, at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Funeral services for Jack will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Calvary Lutheran Church, New Windsor. Visitation will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 5 to 8. Burial will be in Viola Cemetery with military honors by Viola American Legion Post 229. Memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church or the VA Hospital, Iowa City. Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo, is in charge of arrangements.

Jack was born on March 24, 1934, in Arenzville, Ill., the son of John H. and Verna (Schnitker) Schone. He married Rosemary Quigg on Aug. 8, 1954, in Virginia, Ill.

Jack was employed with Crop Production Services in Viola for the past nine years. The previous 30 years he spent with grain elevators and feed-supply businesses in Arenzville, Minden and Viola.

Jack was a United States Navy veteran, serving in the Korean War.

He was past commander of the Arenzville American Legion and had been a member of the Viola American Legion.

Jack was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church in New Windsor, having served on the church council and the fair committee. He enjoyed woodworking and construction in his spare time.

Jack enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and was anticipating the arrival of a new grandchild in July.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary; mother, Verna Schone of Jacksonville, Ill.; daughters and their husbands, Debbie and David Parks of Prairie du Chien, Wis., Cynthia and J Hacker of Morris, Ill. and Amy and Jim Morrison of Viola; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Kim Schone of Arenzville; a sister, Joy Wade of Winchester, Ill.; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean and Mary Schone of Washington, Ill., and Ron and Sara Schone of Arenzville. Also surviving are grandchildren, Kristen and Kyle Parks, Audrey and Iris Hacker, Kaylie Morrison, and Julie, Zachary, Caleb and J.D. Schone.

Jack's father preceded him in death.
