Born in Achnalea, Killean and Kilchenzie, Argyll, Scotland, the youngest of eight sons born to Alexander Armour and Mary Milloy.

They immigrated to Quebec in 1872 where in 1886 Angus, a farmer, married Agnes Janet Steel. They raised a family of nine including:
