Following their marriage in 1966 they lived in Wichita, Kansas where they raised their two sons, James J. Holt II and Richard W. Holt. In 2005 Karen and Jim moved to Kansas City to be near their son Richard, his wife Amy and their children.
While Living in Wichita, Karen was active in Beta Sigma Phi sorority, P.E.O. In raising her two sons she became a very knowledgeable and avid fan of sports, especially the Kansas Jayhawks.
