CHARLES S. HITCHCOCK DEAD
Bennington Young Man Passed Away After Long Illness
Charles Sharpe Hitchcock of Imperial Avenue, died Monday evening, after an illness of over a year. Mr. Hitchcock was a graduate of the Bennington high school and had lived here for the past eight years.
Charles S. Hitchcock was born in Williston, this state, in 1894. He was the son of Rev. Merrill Hitchcock and Ida M. Sharpe Hitchcock. While attending the high school here the young man was always at the head of his classes and the year that he spent at Wesleyan university was marked by high scholarship.
In a recent letter, the president of Wesleyan university says "His record, freshman year, was a fine one. One of the best in the class and undecidedly, such a record would have won him election to Phi Beta Kappa at the close of his freshman year."
He was a young man of fine principles and habits. These with his congenial good fellowship made friends for him everywhere. His love for nature was unusual and from early boyhood he was an interested and close observer of birds and flowers. Mr. Hitchcock was a valued member of Vermont Botanical clubs, having contributed to their ***** a species of bird and a variety of flower never before found in this state.
His surviving family are his mother, a sister, Mary, and brother Nelson of this town, and a brother Guy, an officer in the U.S. Navy. Friends may call at the house from 10 to 1 on Wednesday and the funeral will be private at 1:30 Wednesday.

He is my great uncle, brother of my paternal grandfather. I have not been able to find out where he is actually buried (if he is), he is not listed at Evergreen Cemetery in Pittsford with his parents, nor is he listed in Bennington with his grandmother, Catherine Sharp in Bennington Village Cemetery. I have not found him in any Bennington Cemetery.
